This family-friendly crossover is also known for its dependability, excellent safety scores and outstanding fuel economy. Buyers looking for an SUV that combines all the assets of a great family hauler with superior handling and lots of curb appeal should take a good look at the 2020 Mazda CX-9.
According to the Mazda dealer near San Luis Obispo, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 sets up to seven passengers. However, choosing the new optional second-row captain’s chairs lowers the seating capacity to six. There are four trim levels on offer: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring and Signature.
The 2020 Mazda CX-9 is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, joined to a six-speed automatic gearbox. Great Fuel Mileage Lead The Great Reviews
The Mazda CX-9 continues to get high marks from the automotive media, with Edmunds writing: “[T]he Mazda CX-9 is about enjoying the drive. Its styling will turn heads, and the newly standard i-Activsense package brings extensive safety features. That's a unique SUV blueprint, and shoppers will do themselves a favor by putting this Mazda on their list.”
As you’d expect from a Mazda vehicle, fuel economy is excellent. The 2020 CX-9 gets an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. All-wheel-drive models return 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.*
The Mazda G-Vectoring Control Plus system is standard across the lineup. This setup applies light braking to the outer wheels to increase stability when the CX-9 corners. Off-roaders will appreciate the new off-road traction assist button that assists drivers who need to negotiate uneven terrain. When the system detects diagonal wheels losing grip, it adds brake force to the wheels with the least traction and stops reducing torque.
Standard features on the base Sport trim include 18-inch alloy wheels, high-beam control, heated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, rain-sensing windshield wipers, keyless entry, a six-speaker stereo system, a 7-inch touchscreen and two USB ports. The i-Activsense safety suite is also standard. It includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and other driver-assist features.
Mazda designs its cars and SUVs to be very safe. The 2020 Mazda CX-9 received excellent crash-test scores. The IHIS gave the CX-9 its highest rating of Good in all crash tests and named it one of its Top Safety Pick+ models. The NHTSA gave the CX-9 five-out-of-five stars for overall safety.
