Traveling With a Dog in a Car

Dog sticking head out of car

Traveling is always fun and exciting but if you are a pet lover you know that at times, traveling with your dog can be a challenge. Different states have various rules regarding the safe travel with pets and it is always best to know which apply to your state before hitting the open road. Below we have put together some helpful tips to ensure that you and your furry friend stay safe when hitting the open road.

Some important law / laws –

  • A fine ranging from $250 – $1000 can occur if for example if the police see the pet traveling in an inappropriate manner.
  • Driving with a dog is fine, but on your lap is not fine! Hawaii law seriously condemns it.
  • Never leave any pet in the car unattended.
  • There are few rules under the category of distracted driving violations and if the pet is the reason for any crashes it is covered under above law.

Laws protect to the best possible way be it a human or a pet. But, it is the individual’s responsibility as well to be associated to protect the pet in all aspects. Few of them are –

Crates –

Usage of crates which are crash-tested, durable and liable to all quality testing guide lines as well as dog safety assurance is suggestible. This can help your dog’s exposure to air, safety and protected drives.

Break –

Driving is fun but with a break at regular intervals. While traveling with a dog, the rules change, because unlike humans dogs cannot give a consistent behavior at all times on a long drive. So, it is better to take a break at every 3 – 4 hours and give the dog some fresh air to breathe and stretch.

Power windows – Turn it off!

The disadvantage of power windows while traveling with dogs is that they can easily open it with / without knowledge by the touch of their paw. So, it is always good to turn it off. Also, not all dogs are calm and subtle; some energetic dogs can jump from a running car or get choked between the windows.

Water and bowl –

As humans we can control some requirements while on drive but it is not the same situation with dogs. Don’t wait till you reach the next supermarket for a water bottle and food for your dog. It is a better choice to carry bottle of water and the regular food that your doggy needs.

The SKYACTIV Platform Also Includes the Chassis

19

Mazda’s SKYACTIV platform is aimed to ensure a better interaction between the car and driver. Improving comfort and security features, the SKYACTIV chassis provides a smooth yet powerful driving experience.

The chassis features redesigned front and rear suspensions. It increases the yaw gain (the force that turns a vehicle) at low/mid speeds and reduces it at high-speeds. This provides greater stability at higher speeds.

By increasing the front suspension caster angle and caster trail, self-aligning torque is enhanced to provide a firm steering handle at high speeds. Electric power steering controls make the steering lighter at low/mid speeds by increasing power assistance.

To balance agility and comfort, the entire suspension has been redesigned to improved handling. Shifting the rear suspension trailing link attachment upwards and allowing a greater lever ratio of the mounts helps absorb longitudinal impact shocks from the road and provides a comfortable ride. Increased stability due to this design also reduces stopping distance.

Packaging these advanced features into a light, rigid body is the cherry on top of the cake. To create a lightweight frame, the longitudinal offset of the lower arm attachment position in the front are reduced while the center car section is extended. The longitudinal span of the cross member is extended, welding flanges are removed, and the longitudinal offset of the lateral link attachment position is reduced in the rear. All these help reduce the weight of the car by 14%.

Thus, the superiority of the SKYACTIV Chassis lies in its balance between conflicting needs such as agility and stability, light weight and rigidity, and thrill and comfort.

The Mazda i-ELOOP, Regenerative Braking To the Next Level

DFDF

Imagine a car where every drop of fuel is put to use ensuring no wasting of energy. Mazda’s i-ELOOP, part of the SkyActiv technology package, is used to convert the car’s kinetic energy into electricity. This intelligent energy loop improves fuel economy and engine efficiency.

Vehicle accessories such as headlights, audio system, GPS, and other electrical components are powered using extra batteries that store and supply energy. This puts a load on the engine to burn extra fuel just to power these accessories. Also, the best opportunity to do this would be during braking or decelerating. But the time span of deceleration or braking is quite small.

To overcome these hurdles, the i-ELOOP uses low-resistance, high-capacity electric double layer capacitors (EDLC) and a variable voltage alternator. The alternator provides an output voltage between 12V and 25V, allowing the capacitor to store and discharge a large amount of electricity. The electrodes in a capacitor last long with little deterioration from regular use. Activated carbon is the primary component of the capacitor which is eco-friendly.

The Mazda Connect Display on the dashboard displays the efficiency and charge level of the capacitor system. This will allow you to view and track the flow of energy in real-time. The working of this system is quite simple. When decelerating, the alternator generates electricity and transfers it to the capacitor. During acceleration, the stored electricity supplies power to the car’s electrical components.

The i-ELOOP system reduces a burden on the engine to burn extra fuel for electricity. Less wastage of energy leads to better fuel economy. The use of capacitors also increases the life span of the vehicles lead-acid battery.

Mazda Is Bringing Back Their Performance Series

Mazda 1

The R&D department at Mazda has indicated the revival of the company’s MPS (Mazda Performance Series) badge. Ever since the RX-8 went out of production, the idea of bringing back the MPS line with its rotary power plant has been active. Mazda Australia also has continuously reiterated the lack of an out-and-out sports car that fits into a motorsport category.

Mazda6 was the first car to carry the MPS badge way back in 2005. In 2006, it was the Mazda3. Both cars included a 190kW/380Nm 2.3-litre inline four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine. The MPS line was discontinued, however, following the 2013 model year.

The announcement comes in light of advanced technologies such as SkyActiv that have been invested in by the brand. Innovative exhaust systems, 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo engines, more torque, and improved transmissions of the SkyActiv technology can be applied to the MPS. Thus, future MPS models may be equipped with more power and upgraded parts.

The chief engineer of the Mazda2 hinted at the prospect of building an MPS model and that they’re always investigating these possibilities. Mazda’s head of global public relations, Kudo Hidetoshi also implied giving the MPS tag to the new MX-5. But none of these plans have been confirmed.

Cars with the new Mazda Performance Series (MPS) badge may include the Mazda2 Supermini, Mazda3, and Mazda6. They will rival contemporaries such as the Volkswagen’s Golf R and Ford Focus ST. The revival of the MPS line will get Mazda back into the motorsport arena and make it a key player in the rotary sports flagship.

Transmission Tuning For the Mazda6

 Transmission

The transmission of your Mazda is what pushes the engine to exude its maximum power. It transmits this power to your wheels and keeps you in motion. While the performance of your car depends on usage and maintenance, there are a few modifications that can be done to speed it up. Here we list two important modifications to the transmission that will rev up your engine and give you a high-flying performance.

  1. Switching from a dual-mass flywheel (DMF) to a solid flywheel: A flywheel stores rotational energy from the engine and helps maintain the RPM of your wheels. DMFs make the engine move smoothly by reducing the wear and tear. A DMF will also protect the engine from shock and vibrations. Switching to a solid flywheel is recommended only if you’re using the Mazda for racing or for off-road activities. This is because solid flywheels do not wear out and do not break up when they fail. Thus, they need not be replaced or even repaired often. They also cost less.
  1. Lightening the flywheel: A lighter car usually exhibits better performance than a heavier one. That’s why many on-road vehicles are built to be light. With a lighter flywheel, the engine starts up quickly. The disadvantage is that momentum is lost as the surface begins to climb. This modification is apt for cars that are used in the city and on highways. A light flywheel is able to release more power and helps keep strain off the engine.

Intake and Exhaust Tuning For the Mazda6

 2016-Mazda-6_lg

The airflow and fueling modifications in your Mazda6 are quite an important aspect of getting a good performance. Exhaust plays a vital role as well. Listed below are three tuning methods to the intake and exhaust features of your Mazda to give you a smooth ride.

  1. Adding a high-flow air filter: The relationship between the air and fuel in your car is an indicator of how well it functions. Better the relationship, smoother the ride. Fitting your Mazda with a good air filter will enable it to filter out impurities in the air. A sponge filter fitted with a dirt retentive spray or a filter with a fine-grade metallic mesh will achieve this feat splendidly.
  1. Cold air induction kits: Cold air carries more oxygen to the engine. Temperatures under the bonnet tend to rise due to an increase in power. You can replace the air intake box in your Mazda with an air induction kit for better air flow. This is a cheap alternative compared to other modifications. Ensure your induction kit comes with a cold air feed pipe that will automatically lower the temperature of the engine.
  1. Exhaust modifications: An exhaust will reduce noise from the engine and allow gases to escape efficiently. Having a big, bulky exhaust may look good, but it reduces the power of your engine. The exhaust and intake will have to be balanced to give you a good flow rate without a delay in exhaustion. Fit your Mazda with a smaller exhaust and polish the inside as often as you can. This will ensure proper air flow and improves performance.

How to Modify Your Mazda3

2016-Mazda-3-sedan_1_lg

The Mazda3 is a good automobile when it comes to handling, power, and road sensitivity. Tuning it is not an easy task because even a minor glitch will lead to negative results. Here are four modifications for your Mazda3 that will improve your driving experience.

  1. Intake and ECU Flash: To maintain proper airflow into the engine and reduce turbulence, introduce the “Cobb MazdaSpeed 3 Intake”. This is a safe and reliable modification because not only does it give the engine a sound boost but also increases power. For the ECU tuning, you can use the “Cobb AccessPort”. Its many features include providing a drag race simulation with reaction time, estimation of horsepower and torque, displaying fuel economy, and more.
  2. Inlet hose and cat-back exhaust: For the Mazda 3, you have the “Cobb MS3 Turbo Inlet Hose” and “Greddy Ti-C Cat-Back Exhaust”. The inlet hose will resist collapse under high vacuum and will adjust to engine vibrations easily. The exhaust, on the other hand, will reduce backpressure by increasing the flow of gases. This will result in more power and a broader torque band.
  3. Lower motor mounts: Mounts will minimize the twisting of the engine as it produces power. This is done within the chassis. “CPE Billit Aluminum Engine Mounts” are apt for the Mazda3 which provides a stiff mount and ideally suited for off-road use.
  4. Spark plugs and boost gauges: To improve the safety of your Mazda3, you need to prevent the decrease in engine efficiency that may lead to damage. “NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs for the MazdaSpeed 3” are an upgrade from the stock spark plugs that are fitted with the Mazda. Adding better gauges such as the “Defi Red Racer Boost Gauge” to monitor the engine’s status will show you critical engine parameters during operation.

Mazda CX-3 Clinches Judge’s Choice Award

 cx3_02.ts.1502180226497970

The Mazda SUV bearing the model name CX-3 MAXX AWD has won among a total of 180 cars the much coveted RACQ 2015 Judge’s Choice award in Australia’s Best Car competition. The car was adjudged the winner in 15 categories.

The clinching factor for the Mazda CX-3 was the vehicle’s safety features. Other than the Mazda CX-3, the Hyundai Genesis won the best big car under the $70,000 price range. This accolade was given to this Hyundai model in part due to the excellent record breaking safety parameters. The safety features of Volvo XC90 also ensured that it drove away with the award given to the best luxury AWD SUV. The award for the best medium car segment over $50,000 went to the Mercedes Benz C 200. The car monitors the distraction of the driver and also the fatigue of the person behind the steering wheel.

With the increase of motorists, the rate of accidents are also rising every year. According to the police, the safety features of vehicles do make a measurable impact on the road. Since the median age of vehicle ownership is about 10 years, it follows that a lot of people in the near future will purchase new vehicles. It is strongly recommended that buyers should first go through the safety features- exactly what these awards recognize. The awards by RACQ for the best car of the said year are generally announced in November of same year. The 2015 competition was however delayed until the earlier part of 2016 thanks to Volkswagen pollution scandal. If you want to experience the safest car for your money, ride down to Cardinale Mazda in Salinas.

Parking Distance Sensing Feature in Mazda CX5

 cx5_02.ts.1502180226140270

The parking distance sensing feature of the Mazda CX-5 have identical benefits as the general alert parking sensor mechanism. It has the added advantage of graphic visual display which shows the specific driver the location of the detected object and that object’s proximity to the vehicle.

The parking sensor system projects the image on the vehicle screen in partnership with standard rear camera offering excellent protection. The rear camera of the vehicle offers the driver a vision of what is present behind the car. The rear and front parking sensor system offers you the location and proximity to car.

To integrate seamlessly with the vehicle, the Mazda parking sensors are painted identical to match the car body and bumper color. As the rear or front of the vehicle approaches any object, the driver is alerted by the audible warning tone. This rises in frequency as the car rolls closer to detected object. When the Mazda approached the vehicle from front, this tone begins approximately 80 cm away. It rises to a continuous tone when distance is about 40 cm away from front bumper. When the car reverses, the tone begins at the obstruction approximately 1.6 meters away. It rises in frequency when that object is about 60 cm distant and a continuous tone is emitted when the object is about 40 cms distant or nearer to rear bumper.
