Why you Should Only Use Manufacturer’s Recommended Oil

shutterstock_261977510

A manufacturer’s oil specs are a unique mix that an automobile manufacturer develops and mandates for use in its vehicles. Most of the automobile manufacturers nowadays have in their fine print that the failure to use their factory-specified oils will void the warranty of the vehicle.

The automobile oils nowadays are far more advanced than before. The quality has improved, however, it also has to be noted that the stress the engine put on the oil nowadays has increased significantly as well. The ILSAC (International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee) and the API (American Petroleum Institute) change the oil specs roughly every 5 years. The oil today has to change to accommodate the changing emission regulations, to improve the fuel economy, and to provide better protection against sludge. Its ability to keep the critical parts of the engine is more vital than it used to be.

Most of the automakers today have their own unique engine designs. So it becomes necessary for them to have their own oil specs. For example, a turbocharged vehicle may require synthetic oil rather than the traditional conventional oil. The automakers can, and they do, improve upon the oil standards. However, the minimum requirement set by the ILSAC and API has to be met.

The latest generation oil definitely offers more protection; however, it comes with a cost. Fully synthetic oil and synthetic blends have a higher price tag compared to the conventional ones. Once the free maintenance programs offered by most of the automakers run out, the customers will have to pay a huge price for oil changes. If they decide to skip the manufacturer recommended oil and go with lower priced oil, they risk the warranty provided by the automakers.

In effect, it is always better to use the manufacturer’s recommended oil. In the long run, it will be far more beneficial than going with cheap oils out there in the market.

Stunning Exterior Design of The Mazda PRHT

2015-Mazda-MX-5-Miata-convertible-hardtop_1

Only a handful of vehicles continue production for over a quarter of a century. The Mazda MX-5 Miata has not only continued production since 1989, it also continues to remain amongst the sports cars with the highest number of units sold in history. Manufactured by Mazda Motor Corporation, a Japanese automaker, the MX-5 Miata is a lightweight, roadster with a spectacular ability to accelerate and maintain stability while cornering at a high speed. Mazda continues to invest a significant amount of money in research to improve the quality of the MX-5 Miata.

The fourth generation of the Mazda MX-5 Miata was released in American Markets in 2015. The exterior design of this model with a Power-Retractable Hardtop (PRHT) is described in this article.

Racing Heritage of The Mazda Miata PHRT

2015-Mazda-MX-5-Miata-hardtop_8

The Mazda MX-5 Miata entered its 28th year of production in 2016. Manufactured since 1989 by Mazda Motor Corporation, a Japanese automobile manufacturer, the MX-5 Miata is one of the best-selling nameplates in history. The exceptional reception in the sports car segment of the American and Canadian auto market is only one half of MX-5 Miata’s success story. Its popularity in the American amateur road racing circuit is the icing on the cake.

The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) are the two main sanctioning bodies for amateur sports car racing in America. In the year 2000, they created Spec Miata, an amateur road race class consisting exclusively of modified Mx-5 Miata cars.  The reason for the creation of this class was to provide racing opportunities for people who could only afford economical sports cars. A full decade later, this amateur racing class has saved the American amateur road racing industry from complete collapse.

After the economic crisis that took place in 2007 and 2008, the SCCA and the NASA found their financial situation extremely dire. They could not afford the spiraling costs of road racing in an economy that was in recession. Spec Miata, an amateur racing class with low-cost MX-5 Miata cars was the only racing class that could be financially sustained. Eight years after the economic crisis of 2008, the amateur road racing circuit is dominated by the Spec Miata. The new MX-5 Club was developed as a tribute to the success of the MX-5 Miata PRHT in racing.

To find out more about the MX-5 Club contact Cardinale Mazda, a Mazda dealership located at Salinas, California.

How The Mazda Miata PRHT Performs on The Road?

2015-Mazda-MX-5-Miata-roadster-hardtop_4

The phenomenal success enjoyed by the Mazda MX-5 Miata over the last 25 years has been astounding. Manufactured by Mazda Motor Corporation, a renowned Japanese automaker, the fourth generation of the Mazda MX-5 Miata was available to customers in the third quarter of 2015. When looking for a roaring performance and value for money, the MX-5 Miata has been peerless for over two decades now. The rest of the article takes a look at the performance features of this roadster with an exceptional longevity.

The tremendous acceleration that the customer expects in a roadster is generated by a lightweight, 2.0L DOHC 16 valve, 4 cylinder engine. The power generated by this engine is 167 hp. Mazda states that this engine has variable valve timing to improve its performance. The fuel economy is rated by the EPA at 21 miles every gallon on the city roads and 28 miles every gallon on highways for both manual and automatic transmission.

Speaking about transmission, the customer gets to choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic gearbox with the option to shift to manual transmission at all times. The throttle is electronically controlled to regulate the power delivered from the engine to the crankshaft.

Roadsters like the Mazda MX-5 Miata PRHT require a body that can remain stable at the high speeds reached by these lightweight vehicles. Mazda has built the MX-5 Miata with an aluminum Power Plant Frame made that is light and sturdy at the same time giving the much needed stability to the vehicle.

More information about the Mazda MX-5 Miata PRHT can be obtained by contacting Cardinale Mazda, a Mazda automobile dealership located at Salinas, California.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert Feature of Mazda MX-5

2016-Mazda-MX-5-Miata_3_lg

When you are backing your car in a parking lot or garage, your line of sight is limited to a certain area. Beyond that area, it is difficult to gauge the approach of a vehicle, person, or any obstacle for that matter. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system in the Mazda MX-5 will alert you when an obstruction is detected. This feature may not be equipped in all models.

To enable the Rear Cross Traffic Alert feature, you must first turn on the BSM switch. If not, the RCTA system will remain off. When you put the vehicle into reverse, the RCTA is activated. Depending on the side of approach, an alert flashes on the corresponding exterior mirror. This is accompanied by a loud beep whose volume cannot be adjusted.

Rear cross traffic alerts use sensors to detect approaching obstacles, but these sensors have their limitations. There are a few instances where the rear sensors will not detect approaching vehicles. These instances occur when:

  1. The radar sensor detection area is obstructed by a wall or similar objects such as a large truck or car.
  2. The approaching vehicle is straight behind yours.
  3. The vehicle is parked on a slanted surface.
  4. You are reversing at a speed greater than 6mph.

Even if other cars in the lot are parked incorrectly, the sensors are prone to fail. That is why, even if your car is equipped with the RCTA feature, it is advised to look around and carefully reverse the car to avoid unwanted accidents.

To know more about the rear cross traffic alert feature of Mazda MX-5, talk to an expert at Cardinale Mazda today.

Multi-Functional Mirrors of the Mazda MX-5

2016-Mazda-MX-5-Miata_sports-car_lg

Mirrors are an essential feature of your vehicle. They allow you to keep an eye on the traffic behind you while you are focused on driving ahead. The Mazda MX-5 is fitted with high-quality interior and exterior mirrors. Here is a brief look at the workings of these mirrors.

The Mazda MX-5 has a selector switch on the driver side armrest to control the positioning of the mirrors on the outside. These mirrors can be adjusted when the ignition is in the “ACC” or “ON” mode. You can then select L (left) or R (right) on the switch depending on the side of the mirror you choose to adjust and press the dial. Then, turn the dial back to its neutral position.

In case the exterior mirror is foggy, you can use the “defogging” button on the dashboard, used for rear windows, to clear them. The defogging (or demisting) function for exterior mirrors is available only in some models.

If your Mazda is equipped with an automatic dimming rear view mirror, you can control it through the power button present on it. The function of the dimmer is to reduce glare from vehicles that are behind you. You can turn the dimmer “ON” or “OFF” based on the traffic conditions.

Before you hit the road, make sure all the mirrors are positioned correctly. Folding the mirrors while driving is dangerous as you will not be able to see vehicles that are behind you and steer safely. By ensuring your mirrors are adjusted to the right position, you can avoid fatal collisions and accidents.

If you want to test drive the Mazda MX-5, come to Cardinale Mazda and see it for yourself.
