Each year companies find innovative ways to give back to the communities that supports them. This spirit of giving is what inspired Mazda to create their #DriveForGood initiative, which donates time and money to the organizations that need it most.

 

Mazda joins the American Red Cross this year in order to contribute vehicles that transport relief to impacted areas. In fact, they are one of the only car producers to break the one-million-dollar threshold. In a newer tradition, only in its fourth year, Mazda is expanding the charity initiative even further with a partnership with NBC Universal. This will gift $30,000 to a charity that is nominated by people across America. The winning charity also will be revealed during the Christmas in Rockefeller Center special that airs November 30th on NBC, increasing awareness and paying tribute to all the good they accomplish.

 

In addition to this nationwide event, Mazda will be making donations between November 21st and January 3rd depending on sales numbers. For each Mazda sold or leased during this time period, the company will donate $150. Also for each test drive, Mazda will give an extra hour of charitable service.

Almost everyone who has taken care of a car for a couple years has encountered this dreaded problem. You are all set to go to work, coffee in hand and the kids in the back to drop off at school on the way, when you see a small puddle that formed under your car overnight. It didn’t rain recently, so what is this mystery fluid seeping from your car, and is it a danger to you? Fortunately, we have a quick guide to help identify these strange liquids that might be leaking from your #Mazda.

 

The first thing to evaluate is color and texture, which are the major indicators of what type of fluid is leaking. Light brown to black indicates engine oil, reddish and thin or brown and thick is transmission fluid. Reddish or light brown and thin is power steering fluid. Clear to brown and slick denotes brake fluid, yellow, green or pink and slimy is coolant, and clear and thin is just water. Use a small stick or tongue depressor instead of your finger to test the consistency.

 

The other important factor is location, so placing a piece of foil or cardboard under your car overnight can help differentiate between power steering fluid and auto transmission fluid, which have the same color. However, power steering fluid falls from near the front while the other drips from the middle. All of these can be readily fixed by a quick trip to a mechanic, but if the liquid is brake fluid DO NOT drive, and instead, call a tow truck. Driving could quickly damage your car, leading to repairs.

The hatchback version can be upgraded even more, though, to the Touring 2.5 hatchback, named so for its roaring 2.5 liter 184-hp engine.

 

The most luxurious trim is the Grand Touring level, sporting LED fog lights and quality leather seats. The hatchback option is again available for purchase, as well as a Premium Equipment package and i-ACTIVESENSE package. The Premium Equipment includes LED head and taillights and an improved navigation system, while the ACTIVESENSE package brings greater safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning software.
