Mazda Kicks Off L.A. Auto Show With Exciting Miata News

Mazda Logo

The 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show brought excitement and amazement to all that stopped by the exhibits on display at the Mazda area. The 2017 CX-5 was finally unveiled in a spectacular fashion, drawing oohs and aahs from attendees. Some of the biggest news, however, was the early arrival of the 2017 Miata RF, one of the top selling sports cars of this model year. Mazda personally handed keys to the first customers of the Miata Launch Edition, and revealed that additional base package Miatas were set to arrive in time for the holidays.

This revamped roadster was scheduled to be released in February 2017, but thanks to some hardworking engineers and holiday magic, many dealerships will have the car in stock in mid-December. Many times these early deliveries are only available for a few lucky customers and leave the rest of customers needing to wait longer, but hundreds of these new cars will be up for purchase nationwide. Everyone will also have access to trims like the popular Grand Touring and the choice of manual or automatic transmission for their #Miata.

The changes to this latest edition of this roadster could not have been implemented at a better time, especially the all-new electronic retractable fastback. This motor controlled top is ideal for protection from the cold winter and can easily be raised for the occasional warm or sunny day for a thrilling ride. The 2.0-liter Skyactiv engine is at the top of its class in horsepower and fuel economy, making the MX-5 RF Miata RF an ideal choice for any driver seeking an affordable but fun drive.

Mazda’s New CX-5 Shifts Overall Design Focus

Mazda CX-5 3

Not only are auto shows a great chance for fans and customers to get a preview of what the future of a car brand looks like, it also provides an opportunity for the media to sit down with designers and engineers. These roundtable sessions and interviews are perfect for finding out the motivations behind each change that a car receives, as well as a time to explore options that might be coming even further down the line. Mazda’s design chief Julien Montousse recently hosted one of these interviews at the L.A. Auto Show, and helped shed some light into the updates for the 2017 Mazda CX-5.

One of the bigger changes for this cycle is the exterior styling on the #CX5. Mazda always implements a flowing and sporty look on all of their cars; it’s a big part of their KODO design philosophy. This represents the flowing soul of motion that is imbued into each vehicle. The sleeker profile with a sharknose front and the inverted chrome-underline grille this year are a push towards a, “premium expression” mentioned Montousse. The more raked roofline and sloping liftgate also add to this shift in look and style.

The other new addition for the car is a “floating screen” that rises out of the dash. The car still has its regular infotainment system, but this small heads-up display lets drivers access important information such as blind spot warnings without having to glance over to the side. The decision was made for the added safety, as the higher mounting site puts it closer to the line of sight.
