The Spirit of Mazda: Jinba Ittai!

Cardinale Mazda 5 shutterstock_362837195

What exactly is Jinba Ittai?  It’s a very important part of the culture and foundation of Mazda’s design philosophy.  And the meaning is quite interesting.  When a horse carries a rider, there can be a unique relationship where the two actually become one.  That is the goal of current Mazda engineering and design—that the vehicle and driver become one in comfort, efficiency and beauty.

It’s probably shocking to find out that the average American spends 46 minutes in their vehicles every day.  That’s exactly what a study by AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and the Urban Institute discovered. That adds up to nearly 280 hours either driving in a vehicle or riding in one as a passenger. Mazda’s commitment to Jinba Ittai is extremely evident in its stunning Miata MX-5. Whether using color to blend the interior and exterior design, or the focus on extreme comfort for both the passenger and driver, the MX-5 Miata provides a soothing blend of engineering and design.

The features in the Miata interior features are flawless, from instrumentation to a wide field of vision for drivers.  Engineers have put a great deal of thought into safety features, as well. It has dual front airbags, side impact airbags, side impact door beams and three point safety belts with pretensioners and force limiters.  There’s even a tire-pressure monitoring system to make sure your tire pressure is absolutely perfect.

Under the hood, the Miata MX-5 also delivers.  You get 155 hp @ 6000 rpm, 148 lb-ft torque @ 4600 rpm and a 16-valve 4-cylinder with VTT. It’s got highly responsive acceleration and a super smooth-shifting transmission.

But aside from all that, the Miata MX-5 is just a fun, sexy, head-turning ride.

The MX-5 Miata is a sports car that embraces Jinba Ittai and you’ll love every minute you drive it. Come see for yourself at Cardinale Mazda today! But fair warning—once you drive it, you won’t want to go home without it.

Koeru Concept Crossover From Mazda to Premiere In Frankfurt

Cardinale Mazda 4 shutterstock_319449797

The last time Mazda revealed a new concept vehicle was way back when at the 2010 LA Auto Show.  However, that was then and at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show, this will be now.  It is expected that the five-door crossover design by Mazda’s European R&D Center lead designer Luca Zollino will debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Koeru is expected to make a “bold statement in an increasingly popular and competitive segment,” account to Mazda.  It also promises that the new model will surpass existing standards and push forward with performance, overall value and efficiency.

Koeru means to go beyond or exceed in the Japanese language.

The design sketch for the Koeru looks like it will be sleek like the Mazda CX-3, instead of tall like the CX-5. However, it looks like it will be similar in size to the CX-5.  It will have the 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel SkyActiv engine from Mazda, delivering ample torque.

When will it go into production?  That remains to be seen.  But experts predict that the design cues will be seen in future crossovers before 2020.

This illustrates the commitment by Mazda to continue to offer consumers exceptional performance, technology and design for their driving pleasure.  To experience this for yourself, visit  today.

To change or adjust the clock in the car, go to the “Settings” option on the home screen and select the “Clock” tab. You have 4 options, “Adjust Time”, “GPS Sync”, “Time Format”, and “Time Zone Select” to manually set your preferred time.

  • Commander switch

Blind Spot Monitoring on the Newest Mazdas

Mazda 1 starting price for 2016 MX-5

The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) system is an essential part of Mazda’s new safety technology, i-ACTIVSENSE. It is designed to warn you about blind spots on both sides of the car when changing lanes or backing out in a parking lot.

The BSM system uses radar sensors integrated into the rear bumper which helps you detect the movement of vehicles at the vehicle’s rear. Its warning lights are located on the outside mirrors and illuminate the location of the vehicle detected.

When you are driving on the freeway at over 20mph, the BSM system notifies you of any vehicle within a vicinity of 8 meters. When such a vehicle is detected, the BSM warning lights begin to flash depending on which side the vehicle is. In cases where you are switching lanes and there’s a vehicle nearby, a warning beep will notify you that it is not safe to change lanes.

Rear cross traffic alert works alongside the BSM and operates when you are taking your car out of a parking spot. When you are reversing, the system warns you if it senses a vehicle approaching from the side at 3mph to 18mph. The rear cross traffic alert works only if the shift lever is in “reverse” and the rear view monitor is displayed.

You can activate or deactivate the BSM system by pressing the “BSM OFF” switch on the dashboard. A BSM OFF light illuminates in the instrument cluster to let you know the system has been deactivated. You can also adjust the beep volume by selecting “Settings” and scrolling to the “Safety Tab”. Once there, choose “Blind Spot Monitoring Volume” and select the desired volume.

Active Driving Display and How It Works

19

The Active Driving Display is one of Mazda’s innovative and safe technologies which are designed to help drivers focus on the road while providing relevant driving information. The information is delivered right within the line of sight.

The information provided by the Active Driving Display includes vehicle speed, distance, cruise control, lane guidance, smart city brake support, and lane departure warnings. Real-time information is provided by the system and is displayed on a transparent screen which does not hinder your vision while driving. By using the car’s touch screen or multimedia knob you can control and adjust the settings of the Active Driving Display system.

To operate the system, select “Settings” on the home screen and go to the “AD-Disp” tab. Once there, you can change settings such as:

  • Height: This is the display height which can be set in such a way to provide information in your line of sight.
  • Brightness Control: You can choose to set the brightness automatically or manually.
  • Brightness: This controls the level of brightness.
  • Navigation: You can ensure navigation is displayed on the screen by checking this option.
  • Active Driving Display: You can activate or deactivate the system by checking or unchecking this option.
  • This option will return all options back to their default values.

The system, in order to avoid confusion, displays only three items at a time. It prioritizes the information and puts the most important one at the top. Since the information is projected at about 1.5 meters in front of the driver, there is minimal eye movement from the display to the road ensuring a safe drive.

Audio Controls and Getting to Know Them

2017-hyundai-sport-int-24-rearview-camera

Mazda is an amazing car brand whose design and performance are second to none. Mazdas are equipped with a Bose sound system to give your ears the best audio experience possible. With the infotainment dashboard, you are able to personalize and program the system to suit your ears.

To customize your audio, select the “Settings” option on your home or entertainment screen. Once there, choose the “Sound” tab to adjust the audio. The multitude of options on the screen allow you to control the audio. You can enhance or reduce the Bass and Treble, adjust the front and rear speaker volume through Fade, balance the side-to-side bass via Balance, and use Beep to turn the operation sounds off or on.

There are 3 additional functions which enhance your audio experience:

  1. Automatic Level Control (ALC). Depending on the speed of the vehicle, the ALC adjusts the volume of the speakers. If the vehicle speeds up, volume increases; if it slows, volume decreases.
  2. This technology compensates for white noise and vehicle speed.
  3. It converts stereo signals to produce a higher precision audio from MP3s and radio and provides a surround sound experience within the vehicle.

If you prefer listening to the radio, then select “Auto Memory” and program up to 10 channels of your choice using the “Update Station List” option. Some models are equipped with HD radio where you can enjoy crystal clear sound along with additional station options. You can also pop in a CD of your choice and listen to the music you prefer while enjoying a ride across town.

Trims and Options Available for the Mazda6

TRIM

The Mazda6 is a 5-seater available in 3 trim levels – Touring, Grand Touring, and Sport.

Sport is the basic trim which includes standard features such as the LED lighting, cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, adjustable seating, integrated connectivity, and a 6-speaker sound system. The manual transmission trim consists of these options. When you opt for the automatic transmission Sport, you get a rearview camera, a 7.0-inch touchscreen display, and voice-enabled controls.

Next in line is the Touring trim whose most glaring feature are the 19-inch wheels. The manual transmission includes the same features as the Sport with a lot of additional upgrades; a keyless ignition, rear cross traffic alerts, leatherette upholstery, climate control, blind spot monitoring, and a sliding console in the armrest to name a few. Optionally, for the automatic transmission you have a sunroof, satellite radio, and a Bose audio system equipped with 11 speakers. In case you want the Touring Technology Package, you are required to have these specs. The package adds a number of upgrades to make the car stand out in style. Automatic wipers, auto-dimming mirrors, heated mirrors and seats, and an automatic braking system are packed into the automobile.

The Grand Touring is all this and much more. The wheels are of the same diameter but are styled differently compared to the Touring. LED fog lights, a navigation system, and driver memory settings are a few of its many technological pros. You also have the GT Technology package which includes many of Mazda’s iACTIVSENSE technologies for better safety. Its most appealing feature is the regenerative energy i-ELOOP system which can be used to power its electrical components as well as economize on fuel.

Tech Features of the Mazda6

TECH

The Mazda6 is one of the most technically-rich sedans on the road. This is evident from the numerous details added to every aspect of the automobile. Mazda’s in-house SKYACTIV technology is equipped in the car to make the 6 the best in efficiency and performance. As you dwell deeper into the Mazda’s core, the technology becomes more and more advanced.

The primary power source of the Mazda is its 2.4 liter four-cylinder gasoline engine which also revs up the Mazda quickly and quietly. Its automatic transmission combines the conveniences of both the automatic and manual to give you a smooth yet crisp drive.

If the outside of the Mazda6 is style, then the inside is substance. The Mazda6 weighs 3,200 pounds which make it quite light for a mid-size sedan. This allows it to be easily maneuvered around sharp turns and corners. The weight is balanced by its rigidity, which is 30 percent stronger than the previous models. It is this rigidity which has ensured the automobile passes safety performance tests with top rankings.

The chassis is what holds everything together. It is the mediator between the driver and the car. Equipped with a Traction Control System and Dynamic Stability Control, the driver is able to control the vehicle under severe road conditions. When you turn corners, the body roll is minimized due to the presence of stabilizer bars with the rear suspension giving a solid grip and stability. The MacPherson strut front suspension is all about comfort when driving on any kind of terrain. It communicates between the driver and the road to ensure the drive is as smooth as possible.

Safety Features of the Mazda6

SAFETY

The Mazda6 is equipped with a number of safety features and controls. Some of these features are common across models while some are customized to a few. An i-ACTIVSENSE suite, fitted in the Mazda, features state-of-the-art safety technologies such as,

  • Radar Cruise Control with Close Proximity Warning. Calculates the relative distance and speed between you and the car ahead and maintains a healthy distance. This system helps avoid stress when driving. The Close Proximity Warning issues various audio and visual signals when you drive too close to another vehicle, thus avoiding a collision.
  • Smart City Brake Support and Smart Brake Support with Collision Warning. These are collision mitigation systems which prevent or minimize collisions by automatically applying brakes when driving between 3mph and 18mph.
  • Distance Recognition Support System. When traveling at 19mph or over, the DRSS will measure, warn, and recommend a comfortable driving distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you.
  • Lane Departure Warning System. If you drift off from the designated lane, this system alerts you to get back in line.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert. When you are backing out of a parking space, you are alerted of vehicles approaching from the side.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring. Alerts you of blind spots when changing lanes.
  • High Beam Control. Switches the intensity of beams depending on the traffic ahead.
  • Adaptive Front-Lighting System. Improves visibility around sharp corners and turns.

Every Mazda is fitted with standard airbags on all sides, parking sensors, traction and stability control systems, antilock brakes, and head restraints in the front. Barring the manual transmission Sport model, Mazda also offers a rearview camera and an emergency notification system.
