Further, he dismisses the notion that gas and diesel engines are on their way out.  Mazda continues to put their research and development efforts into their Skyactiv engines.  Next year, the automaker will be coming out with a combustion engine, which Davis feels holds real promise for the future.  Mazda’s position is that the combustion engine will provide gasoline engines with “…the efficiency of the best diesels.”  Currently, Mazda vehicles are among the cleanest cars in emissions testing.  While it’s expected that Mazda will eventually get onboard with EVs, there’s certainly nothing wrong with Mazda continuing to find new ways to improve their Skyactiv engines.
