“When it comes to compact crossovers, it’s easy to see why the 2021 Mazda CX-5 wins the SUV equivalent of Best-in-Show. Not only does it boast beautifully sculpted bodywork, its interior is just as interesting to the eyes. Of course, Mazda has shown us that its attention to detail is more than skin-deep, with thoughtful ergonomics and engaging driving dynamics. Compared with its predominantly dull competitors, the CX-5 is delightfully athletic and equally refined.”
CX-5 buyers can choose from six trim levels: Sport, Touring, Carbon Edition, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature. All trims except the Ground Touring Reserve and Signature are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine developing 187 horses and 186 lb-ft of torque, matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Under the hood of the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trims sits a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 250 hp and 320 lb-ft when fueled with premium gasoline. With regular gas, those figures drop slightly to 227 hp and 310 lb-ft. This engine also gets the six-speed automatic and is available in the Carbon Edition. Both units are offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
