Mark your calendar for August 25, 2017, which is officially the National Park Service Birthday. The National Park Service was founded by our 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt. On this date, the National Parks will waive the entrance fee for those parks that normally charge a fee. There are other freebies you can take advantage of — if you have a fourth-grader, he or she is entitled to a free annual pass, thanks to the Every Kid in a Park program. If you are active-duty military or a disabled U.S. citizen, you can also receive free passes.
