Mazda’s next-generation Sky-Activ Rotary Engine will offer an increased power output, better fuel economy, and enhanced durability. The first production engine that was equipped with rotary technology was the unit that was equipped under the hood of the 1967 Mazda Cosmo. Now the automaker is developing a revolutionizing new version and making rotary engines a reality once more. The rotary engine will debut in the Mazda RX-9. Cardinale Mazda is confident that the debut will be in 2017, as a Mazda executive stated, “You will have to wait until 2017 to find out what will power this car.” Additionally, it is the 50th anniversary of the rotary engine, so it only makes sense to debut it that year.
