Mazda’s Revolutionary Approach to Clean Diesel Technology – Part I

Diesel Mazda

Abiding by the mantra of eco-drive and green energy, most auto manufacturers are on the lookout for revolutionary alternatives to fuel management. Amid technological advances like the hybrid engines, Mazda has chosen an alternative approach towards energy management. Instead of shifting focus towards electric engines, the SkyActiv technology focuses on transforming diesel and petrol engines. Through this approach the engines churn out greater power while consuming a fraction of fuel as compared to a regular petrol engine.

The SkyActiv engines are available in petrol and diesel four cylinder engines. There is extensive information available on the petrol engines while the diesel is still under testing. Most petrol cars from Mazda that are currently available are powered by SkyActive engines.

For a few years now, the diesel engine has been undergoing vigorous testing to assess its real time performance. Mazda recently announced that the fruit of tis research is set to roll out in the latest diesel cars released. A few demo cars powered by 2.2L diesel variants of the Mazda 6 and CX-5 have received a positive feedback. The next batch of cars set for an engine up haul is the Mazda 2 and CX-3.

Looking at the larger picture, the concept of diesel SkyActiv engines is not new. In the home market, Japan, the diesel cars are available at a discounted price and avail the benefits of eco-car tax rebates. To test drive the Mazda Sky-Active engine, visit Cardinale Mazda
