Revival of Mazda’s Rotary Engine

Mazda 2 Revival of Mazda’s Rotary Engine

Mazda ended the production of the rotary engine in 2012, but it seems that the automaker has plans to bring it back. When Mazda revealed its RX-Vision concept car equipped with a rotary engine at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda President Madamichi Kogai stated, “We gave form to our dream for the future.” The automaker is in the midst of overcoming technical issues, but it seems that Mazda engineers are on the right track as Mazda managing executive officer Kiyoshi Fuiwara claimed that “The path to overcoming technical hurdles is almost clear.” Such issues involve negative impacts on the environment and poor durability. Cardinale Mazda hopes that some production version of the RX-vision with a rotary engine will be given the green light in the near future.
