Yes, You Can Feed The Elephants

Unlike most zoos that have a strict no feeding the animals policy, the Monterey Zoo actually encourages you to feed the elephants!  Kids and adults alike will delight in the opportunity to get up close and personal with a pachyderm.  Your zoo guide will introduce you to the elephants by name and tell you something about their history.

Other Special Tours Are Available

If you’d like to help put the elephants to bed at night, there’s a fun evening called Butch’s Bedtime tour.  Help the zookeepers put the elephants of the E.A.R.S. Rescue to bed.  Assist in leading them to their special barn, feeding them and tucking them in for the night.  Or, if you’re a big cat fan, consider the Crunch Time tour, an educational opportunity to learn about the eating habits of the tigers and lions at the Monterey Zoo.  Watch as the big cats devour their dinner.  For those that want to experience it all, there is an all-day interactive safari, but it is pricey ($900).  There are other packages and zoo memberships you might want to check out.

B&B At The Monterey Zoo

That’s right, you can spend the night on the grounds of the Monterey Zoo in a raised platform canvas tent or bungalow.  A unique bed and breakfast, you can pretend you’re on an African safari and fall asleep to the sounds of roaring lions.  Breakfast is delivered in the morning with assistance from one of the sanctuary’s elephants!
