The Miata Is Spunky And Fun Like No Other

Mazda Miata

Miata MX-5 produced by Mazda has been around since the beginning of 1990s and is currently in its fourth generation avatar and this zippy roadster still commands admirable respect on the streets. Each of the incarnations of the car has been created with a lot of love and thought from the highly talented and skilled Mazda engineers and has been well received from all corners.

The American public has exhibited a kind of fondness for this car that it has rarely shown for any other car. It has indulged the manufacturers quite a bit and shown a kind of leniency that other cars have not enjoyed over the years. Lack of horsepower, torque or terrific acceleration has never really been made an issue.

Even the first and second generation models have a high resale value as they are easy to drive and extremely supple. This car cares for the driver! So, for anybody who is looking for some fun behind the wheels of a light 2-seater coupe without exceeding speed limits or seriously damaging your back because of a rigid chassis, the Mazda MX-5 Miata becomes a natural choice.

Other manufacturers have tried to market more sophisticated and powerful roadsters but none has really managed to displace the Miata from the top, especially in the North American markets. The Subaru BRZ or the Nissan 370Z or even Audi TT roadster comes after Miata.

The power in the 2016 MX-5 has been restricted to a mere 155bhp but the weight has been reduced drastically and is now almost similar to the original model! You can’t go wrong with this car. To know more about this car, contact the experts at Cardinale Mazda.

Mazda’s Revolutionary Approach to Clean Diesel Technology – Part III

Diesel Mazda

As the engine is warmed up without internal heating, the weight of the engine can be slashed down. Compared to the diesel engine of other car manufacturers, the SkyAcive engine is lighter due to lowered compression ratio. The engine, as a result also faces lesser physical load in terms of stress. The end product is an engine with pistons that are lighter by one quarter as compared to a regular engine whilst the fuel efficiency is boosted by 20 percent.

The 2.2 diesel engine is built with double turbochargers that work in sequential order. The mode of action of the dual turbocharger is as follows: the turbochargers come in two sizes. The smaller one provides instantaneous response at lower speeds. As the engine is revved the load is switched onto the larger turbo to provide that ‘kick’ at higher speed. As a result, there is a significant boost felt when you press down on the pedal.

The current SkyActiv diesel engines in the Mazda 6 and the CX-5 have recorded an engine output of 420Nm torque and 175PS.

The chosen few who had the honor of testing out the Mazda 6 and CX-5 enjoyed the drive experience- which is the closest one can get to flying on the ground. It also comes as a surprise that while the car is idle there is the absence of a throaty noise that one comes to expect with a diesel engine.

Mazda’s Revolutionary Approach to Clean Diesel Technology – Part II

Diesel Mazda

The SkyActiv engine cars from Mazda comply with the Euro 6 standards of emission. These cars do not require an after treatment with NOx systems. The diesel engines are being marketed as one of kind unique systems that eliminate the associated problems of acceleration lag and poor fuel efficiency.

Those who follow the engine advances of Mazda will find that the compression ratio of 14:1 comes as no surprise. Most SkyActive petrol engines also follow the same standard. The high compression ratio was previously thought as impossible to incorporate into a diesel system.

The reason being high pressure within the combustion chamber resulted in elevated temperature. The increased temperature led to partial combustion with the formation of by-products like soot and nitrous oxides. An approach to eliminate this problem was through delayed ignition which is in turn ineffective because fuel efficiency is lost.

The engineers at Mazda devised an alternative which is efficient and fool proof: controlled fuel injection supported by timed opening of exhaust valves solved the issue of by-product formation.

The process of variable patters of fuel injection is orchestrated by multi-holed piezo injectors. Exhaust valve opening pattern is controlled by a novel lift mechanism using valves that are variable. As a result, when the car is cold started, the released hot exhaust is fed to the cylinders to enable a quicker engine warm-up.

Mazda’s Revolutionary Approach to Clean Diesel Technology – Part I

Diesel Mazda

Abiding by the mantra of eco-drive and green energy, most auto manufacturers are on the lookout for revolutionary alternatives to fuel management. Amid technological advances like the hybrid engines, Mazda has chosen an alternative approach towards energy management. Instead of shifting focus towards electric engines, the SkyActiv technology focuses on transforming diesel and petrol engines. Through this approach the engines churn out greater power while consuming a fraction of fuel as compared to a regular petrol engine.

The SkyActiv engines are available in petrol and diesel four cylinder engines. There is extensive information available on the petrol engines while the diesel is still under testing. Most petrol cars from Mazda that are currently available are powered by SkyActive engines.

For a few years now, the diesel engine has been undergoing vigorous testing to assess its real time performance. Mazda recently announced that the fruit of tis research is set to roll out in the latest diesel cars released. A few demo cars powered by 2.2L diesel variants of the Mazda 6 and CX-5 have received a positive feedback. The next batch of cars set for an engine up haul is the Mazda 2 and CX-3.

Looking at the larger picture, the concept of diesel SkyActiv engines is not new. In the home market, Japan, the diesel cars are available at a discounted price and avail the benefits of eco-car tax rebates. To test drive the Mazda Sky-Active engine, visit Cardinale Mazda
