Newly appointed Mazda North America CEO Masahiro Moro underwent an interview at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, indicating the company’s plans for the future in the U.S. market. Moro reported that Mazda’s U.S. strategy is to build customer loyalty and increase profits by focusing on boosting sales of its crossovers. By focusing on crossover sales, the automaker is less dependent on the sales of the Mazda3 compact car. Moro stated, “I wish that more than 50 percent of our total [U.S.] sales in two or three years be crossovers.” The Mazda CX-3 was recently launched during summer 2015 and the Mazda CX-9 replacement is on its way, so the goal of 50 percent in the near future is within reach. Around this time last year, New Zealand drifter “Mad Mike” Whiddett decided to take an NC-series Mazda MX-5 Miata equipped with a Garrett twin-turbocharged four-rotor engine and transform it into what he dubbed the RADBUL. With help from Pulse Performance, the 2.6-liter engine under the hood of the Miata now generates an insane output of 1,032 horsepower. More power could have been produced, but after testing the RADBUL on the dyno, Pulse Performance needed to tone down the boost because it was too much for the tires. Mazda 2 Glenn McGee Announced Winner of 2015 Mazda Road to 24 Shootout

Mazda Motorsports has announced the winner of the 2015 Mazda Road to 24 Shootout, iRacer Glenn McGee. McGee qualified for the Shootout after being among the top finishers in the Mazda Cup series online simulation. During the Shootout, McGee recorded some of the fastest times. Aside from their racing skills, competitors’ business and marketing skills were also evaluated. The finale was nail-biting competition as McGee faced NASA Spec Miata champion Mark Drinnan. Drinnan has over 60 victories under is online simulation belt. For being the overall winner, McGee will be receiving a $100,000 scholarship and have the opportunity to race in the 2016 Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup. Canadian drive Garret Grist will be returning to the Juncos Racing team for the 2016 Pro Mazda Championship. After the conclusion of the 2015 Pro Mazda Championship, Grist sat in third place. In the beginning of the racing season Grist was going through a tough time as he was unable to obtain a victory. He then kicked it into gear during the second half of the season as he recorded 6 poles, 3 victories, and 4 podium spots. With Grist coming into his third season in the Pro Mazda series, he is hoping to carry the momentum of his strong performance into 2016. Grist stated, “I still have a lot to learn and plenty to prove in Pro Mazda.” The boss of the Juncos Racing team, Ricardo Juncos, stated, “Garett’s 2015 season ended so strongly that it became a must to have him return this year” and “He is certainly a championship favorite and rightfully so.” Cardinale Mazda in Salinas is excited to see what is going to happen during the 2016 Pro Mazda Championship.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named three Mazda vehicles as a 2016 Top Safety Pick+: Mazda CX-5, Mazda3, and Mazda6. The vehicles were put through rigorous safety tests. In order to be awarded these high honors by the IIHS, vehicles are required to receive the highest rating in five categories regarding body structure, as well as earn advanced ratings in collision-prevention technologies that are available. This year marks the second year in a decade that the Mazda MX-5 was named Japan’s Car of the Year. Even within the last four years Mazda vehicles have been crowned with this title. The CX-5 was honored in 2012 and the Mazda2 was named the best last year. The award began in 1980 and since then, Mazda has won six times. The Mazda MX-5 was given the title in 2015 because it was the best redesigned vehicle that was released in Japan between November 1, 2015 and October 31, 2015. The MX-5 was able to showcase its superiority over some fierce competition. The vehicle is features the KODO design language, SYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, a perfectly balanced 50-50 weight distribution, and an engine that is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, delivering 155 horsepower. Mazda 2 Mazda Dealers and Employees Race in Mazda MX-5 Cup Race Car

In 2013, Mazda North American Operations gathered Mazda employees and Mazda dealers to compete in the longest endurance race in America. Coming into this year’s race, the score was tied and a select number of dealers and employees were ready to compete in the National Auto Sports Association’s 25 Hours of Thunderhill. This time the 15 drivers were able to compete behind the wheel of the all-new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Cup race car. It is a way for the drivers to experience what the race car is all about, as well as a way for Mazda to test its durability. The MX-5 Cup series comprises of 45-minute sprint races, equaling to two full seasons worth of competition for each car. The employees and dealers will be racing alongside four 2016 Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup spec cars being driven by Long Road Racing. Cardinale Mazda sees this as a great way for friendly competition between Mazda employees and dealers.
