Celebrating Mazda’s First Wankel Rotary Engine

According to Inside Mazda, the event will showcase vintage Japanese vehicles and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking first Mazda sports car, the Cosmo Sport 110S.  Featuring the Wankel rotary engine, this vehicle paved the way for Mazda technological advances and Mazda experienced great success with its rotary engines.  Globally, Mazda sold more than one million vehicles equipped with the rotary engine.  Even today, many are still enthralled with the rotary engine technology and Mazda may be working on future designs to feature a rotary engine again.

Although it may be tempting to cut corners, when buying tires for your vehicle, Cardinale Mazda in Salinas strongly encourages you to always buy new tires.  Good tires are paramount to keeping your family safe while traveling in your vehicle.  Avoid secondhand or used tire stores at all cost, as they may not be a bargain after all.

Why You Shouldn’t Shop For Used Tires

Many used tire outfitters obtain their stock from larger chain tire retailers who are willing to part with older tires they’ve replaced with new tires for their customers. That’s because there is a fee to remove and safely dispose of rubber tires.  If those tires were being replaced, that should be a red flag right there.  For starters, the tread is likely to already be showing signs of wear and tear.  Even if the tire tread looks “good” on a tire right now, it simply won’t last as long as a brand new tire.  You also need to beware of dry rot.  These are tires that have been sitting in one spot for an extended period of time, exposed to extreme weather.  You can recognize a tire with dry rot by inspecting a tire closely.  If you notice tiny cracks on the sidewalls and the tread and the color of the tire rubber is grayish, that’s dry rot.  It’s extremely dangerous to drive on tires with dry rot because they can split and blow out at any given moment.

Why Age Of A Tire Matters

The typical consumer doesn’t realize that the age of a tire matters.  Not only the age of the four tires that are on your vehicle, but also the spare tire.  The older a tire is, the more the rubber compounds break down and deteriorate, making it dangerous for driving.  To determine the age of a tire, look at the tire identification number located on a tire.  The last four digits you see will indicate the week and year a tire was made. Any tire older than five years should definitely warrant a tire inspection.

Mazda Announces Ambitious Goal For Diesel-Powered 2018 Mazda CX-5

At a time when other automakers are pulling back on their plans for diesel-powered vehicles, Mazda is surging ahead with their diesel engine for the 2018 Mazda CX-5.  According to Automotive News, Masahiro Moro, the President and CEO for Mazda North American Operations, Mazda’s intent is to sell diesel models of the 2018 Mazda CX-5 comprising 10% of all U.S. CX-5 sales.

Diesel Engine Only Available In Grand Touring Trim

Initially, the diesel version of the 2018 Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV will only be available in the Grand Touring Trim.  Depending on how well sales are trending after the launch of the diesel-powered model of the CX-5, Mazda may elect to expand the diesel engine into other trims of the CX-5, as well as other models in its lineup.  It’s interesting to note that the diesel version of the Mazda CX-5 has already been made available in foreign markets with positive results.
