Mazda seems to have changed its mind once again and is no longer importing the 2016 Mazda2 vehicles into the U.S., despite being built just south of the border. According to recent reports, Mazda decided that the subcompact just isn’t profitable enough in the United States. Mazda reportedly sold 13,615 units last year, against 59,340 Honda Fits and 63,192 Ford Fiestas and 93,518 Chevy Sonics. Robert Davis, Mazda Senior Vice President of U.S. Operations, said: “It will always be there if we need it” – which suggests that if the circumstances change, a spike in gas prices, for example, Mazda could bring it back into the states.
