Car Basics: Synthetic Oil vs. Conventional Oil

Car Basics: Synthetic Oil vs. Conventional Oil When it comes to your car everything is important and keeping up with your vehicle’s maintenance is critical. The rule of thumb is that every 3,000 miles you should change your vehicle’s oil, but have you found yourself debating whether to go with synthetic of conventional oil? There are a few points to consider before making the decision. First you should know that synthetic oil is more expensive, but it may be worth the extra few bucks. Synthetic oil is regular mineral oil whose constituents have been separated and then remixed in a much higher quality to provide better quality oil in extreme conditions. Synthetic oils also have a much higher heat resistance so it is important to use this type of oil in engines with high heat output or vehicles that are tough performers, i.e. hauling trucks, sportscars and large carriers. Conventional oil is great as well, as a matter in fact, most cars on the road will run just fine with conventional oil – regardless of the fact, it is always best to go with the oil recommended in your owner’s manual, because that is what your engine has been designed for.
