Always start with a clean vehicle.  Make sure that all the dirt and grime is removed.  Run a dry, soft cloth over your newly washed car and check for any rough spots.  If you find any residue, remove it before applying wax.  There are a variety of waxes available, and the best way to see if the wax you choose will get the job done is to test a small area on your vehicle.  Apply the wax, wait the prescribed time and then buff the test area.  If it looks shiny, then proceed with waxing the rest of your vehicle.  When buffing your wax job, always have plenty of clean, soft cloths available.  Be careful not to apply the wax too thickly, and also avoid waxing your vehicle in direct sunlight.
