Cardinale Mazda Salinas Tells You How To Protect Your Vehicle From The Sweltering Summer Heat

Summer Heat Protection

Extreme weather conditions can take its toll on your vehicle, in more than one way.  For example, tires can expand and blow out, and engines can overheat.  With the hot California summer quickly approaching, Cardinale Mazda Salinas urges you to take the following steps to protect your vehicle from the sweltering temperatures.

Take Care Of Your Tires

High heat can be especially hard on your tires, causing them to expand.  This can potentially create a condition where you tire can blow out.  If you’ve ever had this happen to you, then you know how dangerous this can be.  The good news is that it’s avoidable if you take some extra precaution with your tires during periods of extreme heat.  Keep an eye on your all your tires’ air pressure.  Use a tire gauge and make sure the readings match up with the recommendations found in your Owner Manual or they are also often found on the inside of the driver’s door.  Add air or deflate air from your vehicle’s tires as required.

Keep Your Engines Cool

In extreme weather, your vehicle’s engine works harder.  If your vehicle is low on coolant, it can cause your vehicle’s engine to overheat.  When you see steam or smoke coming from beneath your vehicle’s hood, especially when stopped in traffic, will you be prepared?  Always carry some extra coolant in your trunk for emergencies.  Better yet, bring your vehicle to Cardinale Mazda Salinas so we can do a routine maintenance check to include an oil filter change, tire rotation, and check the brake pads.  We’ll be sure to top off your coolant to avoid such a scenario!

Check Your Vehicle’s Battery

Most folks don’t realize this, but the hot sun can drain your vehicle’s battery.  Pay special attention to your vehicle’s battery to be sure any corrosion is cleaned off the terminals, and avoid parking your vehicle in direct sunlight.  Find a shady spot to park instead.  Also, it’s a good idea to carry battery jumper cables in your vehicle.

Lubricate Your Vehicle’s Engine With Plenty Of Oil

A hot engine requires more than the usual amount of oil to keep it well-lubricated and running.  Definitely make it a point to schedule an oil filter change with us during the hot summer months.  At Cardinale Mazda Salinas, we use only the best oil for maximum lubrication.

Keep An Emergency Kit In Your Vehicle

No one expects to be stranded, but it can and does happen.  In the hot summer weather, this can be potentially deadly for humans.  Make sure you have an emergency kit in your vehicle and include at least one gallon of water (or more), some snacks that won’t melt, a blanket, sunscreen or sun hat, first aid kit, jumper cables, flashlight, emergency signs or flares and a tool kit.  It also bears emphasizing to always make sure your cell phone is charged or that you have a portable phone charger with you.
