History of MAZDASPEED and Mazda Motorsports MAZDASPEED factory-engineered vehicles, performance parts and accessories, and motorsports programs are the ultimate expression of Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom spirit. MAZDASPEED’s racing heritage can be traced back to an independent racing team in the late 1960s, known as Mazda Sports Corner. The Mazda Cosmo 110S was the sleek, two-seater that the team decided to drive as they ventured out to establish a Mazda presence at major motorsports events worldwide. The first accomplishment came when the Cosmo took fourth place at an 84-hour endurance race in Nuerburgring – this was a great achievement for a new racing team and a new car with completely new engine technology.
