What The Future Holds For Mazda Vehicles

Mazda 1

You can expect more cutting-edge technology in the not-too-distant future from the engineering team at Mazda.  Witness its recent release of the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF convertible with the retractable hardtop for proof that Mazda thinks outside the box. Even Marty McFly would be impressed. What’s next on the horizon for Mazda?

Although we may not be ready for flying cars, electric vehicles will likely become more common. With the push for zero-emissions vehicles, it’s no surprise that Mazda has projected the release of an electric model by 2019.

Mazda continues to support research and design of a rotary sports car, with reports that it will feature a SKYACTIV-R engine. The focus will most likely be on fuel economy, emissions performance and reliability — all tangents that Mazda is known for acing.

It’s also expected that Mazda will introduce Android connectivity to its next generation of vehicles, possibly as early as 2018.  Mazda enthusiasts have been clamoring for Android Auto for quite some time. Android connectivity is likely to boost sales for Mazda.

Many exciting technological advances are being made such as 3-D printing. These new and emerging technologies are expected to impact future development of vehicles. For example, it’s predicted that 3-D printing of automobiles will save a ridiculous amount of moola. The question remains, will that translate into making pricing for vehicles even more competitive?  Always a leader in automotive design, we’re anxious to see if Mazda gets on board with future 3-D printing technology.

Five Vehicle Fluids You Should Check Monthly

Mazda LOGO

Automotive maintenance is one of those mundane tasks that most of us are prone to put off, sometimes longer than we like to admit.  However, your vehicle can suffer the consequences if you continually procrastinate.  Isn’t it time you get yourself in gear and find a method of remembering to perform the most basic vehicle care on a monthly basis?

For starters, we’re going to tackle vehicle fluids.  These are all fluids that are essential to keeping your car running.  To keep it simple, let’s come up with an acronym to make it easy to remember.  How about TPBEC or The Power Behind Every Car?  Let’s break that down as follows:

Transmission Fluid – This fluid is vitally important as it keeps your transmission running smoothly.  If your transmission doesn’t work, your car won’t move.  So it’s not something you want to skimp on and not check.  Locate your transmission fluid reservoir and check the fluid while the engine is running.  Make sure the fluid is up to the mark and isn’t brown or smells burned.  If it’s low, brown or smells burned, make an appointment with Cardinale Mazda’s Service department to have the transmission fluid replaced.

Power Steering Fluid – This fluid is necessary to keep your power steering system lubricated so that your steering wheel turns easily.  After you find the reservoir holding the power steering fluid, check to be sure it isn’t low.  If it is, take your vehicle to Cardinale Mazda Service department so they can inspect it for a possible leak or add more power steering fluid.

Brake Fluid – This fluid helps keep your brakes in good working order.  Check the level in the reservoir and make sure its color is gold.  If it’s not a golden hue or if it appears to be low, take your vehicle to your Service department to have the brake fluid replaced.

shutterstock_261977510

Engine Oil – This is probably the most important fluid and is critical to lubricating the engine parts to keep them moving.  Whereas most of the other fluids listed here will seldom require replacing, oil requires regular oil filter changes and adding oil as necessary.  Locate the dipstick in your oil reservoir and pull it out, wipe it off with a shop towel then reinsert it and remove again.  Check the level of oil registering on the dipstick.  Add more if required, but be careful not to overfill.  Check your owner’s manual to determine how frequently the oil needs changing.

Coolant – This fluid prevents your car from overheating.  To check your coolant, remove the radiator cap when the car is not running.  Check to see that the coolant lines up with its level mark.  If low, add more of the same brand of coolant.

If you take the time to regularly pop the hood and check your vehicle’s fluids, you can help prevent costly breakdowns and prolong the life of your car.  Our Service department at CardinaleWay Mazda Salinas can assist you with regular vehicle maintenance, including oil filter changes. Our location at Salinas Auto Mall makes it convenient for you to stop by for all your service needs.  While you’re here, feel free to browse our large selection of new Mazda models and #CertifiedPreowned vehicles.  At CardinaleWay Mazda Salinas, we pride ourselves on making customer satisfaction our #1 goal.  Visit our website at www.cardinalemazda.com for all our latest specials.

Let Us Entertain You With Mazda’s Infotainment System

Mazda Connect  Technology is changing daily and its impact can be felt in the automotive sector.  We’ve run the gamut from station wagons to crossover SUVs and electric cars.  Even the way we travel in automobiles has changed over the years, especially in terms of communication and entertainment.

It used to be that longer trips with children onboard required a lengthy rendition of “Ninety-Nine Bottles of Beer on the Wall” or automobile bingo and license plate games.  How often did parents hear, “Are we there yet?”  No longer is that the case, thanks to connectivity advances in today’s vehicles.  Adults and teens can now enjoy their Smartphones and tablets.  The younger set can also pass the time during commutes with iPads and iPods or watch videos on LCD entertainment centers.  If your device battery runs low, you can just plug it into the car charger.

What did we ever do without cell phones when we had a flat tire, became lost, ran out of gas, or realized we forgot to pick up a child from soccer practice?  Paper maps and road atlases are quickly becoming a thing of the past because we have simple-to-use GPS navigation on our Smartphones or on our dashboards.

In terms of musical choices, we’ve gone from AM/FM radio, 8-track tape cartridges, cassette tape players and CDs to the latest Bluetooth music streaming and Pandora radio in our vehicles.  The recent craze is now carpool karaoke (see James Corden YouTube videos) in which you can sing along to your favorite artists’ hit songs.  Riding in a car has never been more fun or engaging.

Mazda has stepped up to the challenge of providing its driver with an Infotainment System in its vehicles.  This includes Mazda Connect, a Bluetooth application for Smartphones, GPS navigation, internet radio such as Pandora, and other apps.  The 7-inch touchscreen that is mounted on the dashboard can be activated by touch or voice recognition.

Mazda Infotain

It’s an ever-growing challenge to keep ahead of the technological advances. However, Mazda continues to evolve and embrace new concepts in the auto industry.  Recent reports are that Mazda may be moving towards Android connectivity for its next round of models, presumably in 2018.

Experience all that the new 2017 Mazda models have to offer at #MazdaSalinas.  Come visit us at the Salinas Auto Mall and test drive a Mazda CX-3.  Check out the Mazda Infotainment system for yourself.  See our website at www.cardinalemazda.com for a listing of new and certified pre-owned vehicles.

Mazda’s SKYACTIV 2.5T Receives Recognition

Mazda LogoNo surprise here, Mazda racks up yet another prestigious award for its engineering excellence.  One of the 2017 Wards 10Best Engines awards goes to Mazda for its SKYACTIV 2.5T engine.  #Mazda continues to lead the way, with this turbocharged engine that is innovative in more than one way.

You’ll find this SKYACTIV 2.5T engine in the second generation of Mazda’s CX-9 crossover SUVs.  It’s just one more reason to consider the midsize 2017 Mazda CX-9 as your crossover SUV of choice.

What’s remarkable about this engine is an engineering design known as Dynamic Pressure Turbo.  This engineering concept allows the turbocharger to smoothly deliver up to 310 pounds of torque.  That translates to more power which helps to improve acceleration.

Everyone from automobile manufacturers to consumers want more power in their vehicles, but without adding to fuel cost.  Mazda has that angle covered, as this marks the first gasoline SKYACTIV engine that Mazda has turbocharged.  This lightweight turbocharged engine improves fuel efficiency in the Mazda CX-9 by an impressive 25%.  This was achieved by re-engineering the exhaust gas recirculation system so that is a cooled system. This helps to eliminate early fuel enrichment which is prevalent in most other automobile engines.  Huge win for Mazda’s engineering team!

Why The Mazda3 Is The Perfect Choice For Teenagers

Mazda3 3Looking for a reliable first car for your teenager or college-bound student?  Let’s face it, deciding on a first car for your son or daughter is a daunting task.  It’s not as simple as it was when you picked out their first bike with training wheels.  Fast forward to the present, and you no doubt realize that while safety is still a priority, there are a lot more factors to consider when choosing a car for today’s teenager.

If you’re like most parents, the factors that are most important for your teenager’s ride include safety, reliability, fuel economy and affordability.  Let CardinaleWay Mazda Salinas make it easy for you!  The search is over, as the Mazda3 should definitely be at the top of your list, whether it’s the new 2017 model or a certified pre-owned Mazda3.

It’s a practical choice, hands down.  The Mazda3 is a compact vehicle that is fuel efficient (up to 41 mpg highway), thanks to its 155 horsepower SKYACTIV 2-liter, four-cylinder engine.  Saving at the pump lets you put those dollars saved toward other costs like college tuition.  Reliability is its strong suit, as Consumer Reports estimates that Mazda’s SKYACTIV engine is 43% above average.

For safety, your teenager will benefit from the Mazda3 Connect system that enables them to be hands-free with their cell phone.  You can also choose a Mazda3 that is equipped with optional ACTIVSENSE safety features such as blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert.  It’s worth the extra investment to help keep your teenager safe.

Of course, to the teenager, visual appeal is vitally important.  After all, it’s not unusual for a teen to think that their car defines them.  Who can resist the 2017 Mazda3 sportier 5-door hatchback model?  It inspires pride of ownership which is a huge plus.  That’s because you’ll want to see your son or daughter keep their first vehicle spotless inside and out, right?  The hatchback also provides more cargo space for storing all the gear your teenager will haul.

We invite you to visit Salinas Auto Mall to view our great selection of new and certified pre-owned vehicles.  Put your teenager behind the wheel of a Mazda3 for a test drive.  It’s a comfortable ride and easy to drive, with a push-button start.  Our Sales team will be glad to demonstrate all features of the Mazda3.  Let our Finance department at #CardinaleMazda Salinas help you secure affordable financing.  For all your automotive needs, see our website at www.cardinalewaymazda.com.

2017 Mazda3 Named #1 Compact Vehicle

Mazda Logo

Mazda is starting off the New Year with a celebratory bang!  The 2017 Mazda3 was named #1 compact vehicle among 24 similar models, according to U.S. News & World Report.  That’s an impressive feat and testimony to Mazda’s commitment to excellence.  This top performance vehicle is available as a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback.  It’s stylish and sporty without being pretentious, yet the interior oozes a sophistication lacking in its counterparts.  You’ll find a large selection of the #1 ranking 2017 compact at #MazdaSalinas.

Available in four trim levels, including Sport, Touring, Touring 2.6 and Grand Touring, the 2017 Mazda3 runs on a standard 2.0 liter, four-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower.  You’ll find that the upper trim levels offer a 2.5 liter, four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower, which translated means more power and faster acceleration.  The Mazda3 standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, with 6-speed automatic available as an option.   Fuel economy cited for the automatic transmission is 28 mpg city and 37 mpg highway.  For those who like to drive fully engaged, the stick is the obvious, fun choice.

Both the sedan and hatchback models come equipped with 60/40 split-folding rear seats.  If you like hatchbacks, you’ll love the cargo space configuration for the 2017 Mazda3.  Behind its rear seats, the Mazda3 offers a modest 20.2 cubic feet of storage capacity.  However, with the rear seats folded down, you’ll discover an astonishing 47.1 cubic feet, more than doubling its cargo space.  Keep in mind that this is more than most of its compact competitors can offer.

Mazda3 3

Other attractive features include an infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen that is easy to use.  Bluetooth and Pandora internet radio are also included. You can add on a safety package, i-Activsense, which includes new features including a camera to detect pedestrians and a system that recognizes road signs.  Also new for the 2017 Mazda3 models is G-Vectoring Control, a steering response mechanism being credited for its precise steering capability.

If you’re looking for an affordable, comfortable ride with versatile cargo accommodations, take a ride in the 2017 Mazda3.  Discover for yourself why it’s the #1 compact vehicle.  Your new Mazda3 is waiting for you at the Salinas Auto Mall.  Not in the market for a 2017 model?  Check out our Salinas used car selection.  If we don’t have what you want on our lot, our Sales team will be glad to locate it for you. 2016-Mazda-MX-5-Miata_3_lg

Let’s admit it, the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF looks like it belongs in Gotham City.  It’s easy to imagine the convertible with the retractable hardtop as a modern-day Batmobile.  It’s definitely shaking up the automotive world, as pre-sale orders are skyrocketing for the stunning new version.  Expected to arrive on lots in February 2017, there are already some models in the U.S. now.

Sports car enthusiasts and collectors alike are going to love the sleek and sexy MX-5 Miata RF.  For starters, the “RF” refers to retractable fastback, an astonishing power-folding mechanism that retracts in about 12 seconds.  For aesthetics, you can’t miss the pair of flying buttresses on the rear, designed to accommodate the retractable hardtop.  We can only utter, “Holy smokes, Batman!”

This latest MX-5 Miata RF is so hardcore that it possesses exciting dual personalities.  With the hardtop up, it resembles a sports coupe comparable to a Porsche.  Put the hardtop down and you’ve got yourself a roadster capable of stopping people dead in their tracks as they stare in either awe or envy.  If you dare, consider blaring Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” anthem.

What’s New In 2017 For The Mazda6

Mazda6 coupe 3

Looking for a family-friendly, sleek sedan boasting peak performance and fuel economy?  Your best bet is the 2017 Mazda6.  It’s eye candy—a mid-sized sedan with four doors and an interior that emphasizes what Mazda does best. It makes it look and feel rich without a staggering price tag.  New changes abound for the 2017 model.

The most exciting change includes G-Vectoring Control, a concept designed to address steering response.  The “G” stands for g-force or the force of gravity.  The faster the change in speed, the more one feels the gravitational effect.  The idea behind G-Vectoring Control is to reduce power to the engine as the vehicle makes turns, transferring weight to the front tires.  This helps make the turns seamless or smoother. Yet the reduction in torque is so subtle that you’ll barely notice.  Despite being barely discernible, G-Vectoring Control is expected to significantly improve vehicle handling on slick road conditions.

Also new in 2017 are a couple of new additions to the i-Activsense suite of safety features.  First is the newly installed Forward Sensing camera, capable of recognizing pedestrians that emerge into the path of the Mazda6.  It’s designed to avoid or alleviate pedestrian impact.  Another new feature to i-Activsense is its ability to recognize traffic signs.  Just think, no more running Stop signs!

Within the interior, new improvements include a heated steering wheel, leather-simulated seats and noise suppression.  For the latter, Mazda went back to the drawing board and implemented tighter seals on the doors, added thicker auto glass in the front doors, and boosted sound insulation.  The end result is quieter noise on the inside.

Mazda 2 beauty and pretty face mazda6

There’s also a new trim offering in 2017.  Joining the Mazda6 lineup is Grand Touring, featuring leather seats in your choice of black or off-white and heated rear seats.  Other trim levels include Sport Manual, Sport Automatic, Touring Manual and Touring Automatic.  With a 2.5 liter, four-cylinder SKYACTIV engine, the Mazda6 fuel economy cited is 26 city and 35 highway.

For those that prefer a sedan, the 2017 Mazda6 offers the latest in technology, with an impressive slate of safety features.  Give it a try, and discover the Mazda magic. Come to #MazdaSalinas, and catch the wave of excitement. While you’re here, maybe you’d like to check out a Mazda CX-3 or Miata.  We’ve got a vehicle to suit every need and budget.  Visit our website at www.cardinalemazda.com for all your automotive needs.
