Mazda Chairman keeps the Rotary Sports Car Dream Alive

Mazda Chairman keeps the Rotary Sports Car Dream Alive Mazda’s newest Chairman, Seita Kenai, has revealed that a new rear-wheel drive rotary-powered sport car is in the making. In a recent interview, Kanai refused to rule out the development of a second rear-drive platform vehicle. It appears that the fourth generation MX-5 will be getting a sibling in the near future. Mazda’s corporate communications chief, Hidetoshi Kudo, commented, “We have no intention of stopping development of the rotary engine. It’s a part of our challenging convention spirit.” The Japanese automaker holds the title of producing more rotary-powered models than any other car brand. Although first patented in 1929 by a German engineer, Mazda has taken the engine and transformed it into their own – Mazda rear-drive SKACTIVE technology.
