Robust, Agile & Powerful Mazda’s Four-Wheeled Trucks After Japan’s recovery from the war, there was a peak of 72% of overall truck production in 1953 – three-wheeled trucks went out of style and were quickly replaced by small four-wheeled pickup trucks. Japan quickly experienced a growth in demand of the comfortable new four-wheeled trucks – having produce small four-wheeled trucks in low volumes since 1950, the increase in demand lead to the production of a new kind of truck. In April 1958, the auto manufacturer brought out the new Romper cab-over semi four-wheeler. Although this model featured a robust body it was a superbly nimble performer with plenty of other attributes. The Romper featured some of the latest technology of its time – the Romper had a 32.5ps water-cooled, twin cylinder engine and a one-ton load capacity. The following year, Mazda delivered the D1100 – a pickup truck with an advanced water-cooled four-cylinder DHV engine delivering unmatchable performance and power.
